The church of Sant’Onofrio

The church of Sant’Onofrio was built in the mid-17thcentury and replaced a crumbling building entitled to Saint Nicholas.

The church is actually dedicated to the Saints Nicholas and Onuphirus, as you can see in the architrave, decorated with floral patterns and birds. The church, whose small façade is lime-plastered, has a pipe organ from the 18th century, a big crucified Christ and a statue of Saint Onuphirus with beard and long hair, which covers his nudity.

Saint Onuphirus is also portrayed in a processional silver statue from the 18th century and in a painting that depicts him living as a hermit and adoring the Most Holy Trinity.

Another painting from the 17th century is Madonna Consolatrice, which represents the Virgin Mary with the Saints Augustine, Nicholas of Tolentino, Thomas of Villanova and Monica.
