The church of San Francesco d'Assisi

Built in the mid-17th century, this church belongs to the adjacent Franciscan convent, which is the present-day town hall. The façade – made with the bossage technique – has an austere appearance. The bell tower dates back to the mid-18th century and it is unfinished and truncated. On the side façade you will see the 19th century clock tower.

Inside the church, with a single nave, you’ll admire some baroque altars built by the friar Luca Principino and three hundred polychrome sculptures.

Here is the famous painting Madonna degli Angeli (Virgin of Angels), in front of which the priest Giosafat Pinto had a vision. This was the birth of the annual event called Le Fanove.

The legend says that the bandit Scannacornacchia hit the weather vane placed on the top of the church with a gunshot: he was irritated because of the bad omen coming from the wind direction.
